Day 2 - Singapore

Had a great night's sleep and woke after Sophia had already left for school. As in Europe, dryers are a luxury due to the high price of electricity. Out my bedroom window is a view of subsidized housing and the women hang their clothes out the balcony for drying. Sophia said "They even hang their bras and underwear!" LOL. A long stick with a hook allows them to hang items from the ceiling too!

Trying to organize my suitcases and waiting for a "happy day"! Kim made a wonderful breakfast of eggs, roasted tomatoes and roasted potatoes. Yum! She counts macros to lose weight. Had a zoom meeting with Marion (my brother) to catch up on his renovation progress since he relies on me to be the "bad cop" if I notice something undone or done haphazardly by the contractor.

Off for a walk back to the area of last night's dinner for Kim to find a comfy outfit for the plane and take photos and checkout a local store, Robinsons, for a pair of shorts I neglected to bring.  The garden aspect of this city is outstanding and they prize their "Heritage" trees.  The NPark created this scheme to preserve their mature trees and gives this designation to keep them from being cut down. There are nine varieties of trees in this category.

Orchard Rd. is where it's AT! This is the miracle mile for shopping in Sing. The MOUSE can be seen on city streets to welcome in the New Year. And flower decorations abound.

Walked 2.7 miles for shopping today with no store having shorts for me. They organize their stores by designer and not by sizes as we do in the States. Searching for something and then trying to find it my size was quite the undertaking. But the store decorations were beautiful. They have an entire ground floor devoted to cosmetics!

Kim found a lovely long dress even though she really wanted a more fitted pant and pullover. It's strange but all the inventory seemed "dressy" to me with nothing that you would wear to hang around the house or "dress down".

We did some grocery shopping and stopped for an iced flat white to cool down from this hot day's walk. Passing one of the many "old shops" streets, we take a closer look for the style and architecture of the time.

Have no idea what a "talking hall" might be but could probably take a stab at it due to location.
One last stop for fish food and we're heading home. These cuties caught my eye. I had no idea that turtles could climb trees!

Sophie texts her Mom and Dad when she gets out of school and gives them a short update of her day. Dad offered her a favorite pizza for tonight's dinner and she was thrilled. I tried my hand at GrabFood delivery ordering and was successful! Tomorrow after school Sophia gets her braces off and it's also Free Choice treat day so Sophia has chosen a walk to Ben and Jerry's for her treat after the orthodontist.

Walking around Singapore is a way of life for this family. It's a 2 mile walk/run to the gym round trip and the same for groceries, restaurants and clothes shopping. So they get in many miles in a week's time. Better not forget an item at the grocery. It isn't just a quick drive but long walk to go back or wait for another day to fetch.

Sophia and I had our pizza and chocolate lava cake for dinner and then played Clue followed by Suspicion. Then it was homework and shower time followed by watching Daddy play Fortnite for a couple rounds. Trying to keep my eyes open, I finally succumbed to finishing my blog and hitting the "hay" for the night.
