Day 10
As predicted, was a day in for laundry. It's Valentine's Day and Kurt came home from work early. We had a great dinner that Kim had prepared and then we splurged with Grab food delivering some delicious desserts from Chalk Farm. I didn't get the entire cake but a slice of each one below. Yummm! It's Valentine's Day! I HAD to splurge. S$20 for two pieces of cake! I'm loving Grab transportation and food delivery. I may have to try delivery at home and skip the grocery store. LOL.

Day 11
Kurt made reservations at the Marina Bay Sands Hotel's Lavo Restaurant at the top on the surfboard. It's 57 stories up but the elevator is fast and made the trip in 25 seconds! Thank goodness! I'm not a confined-spaces-for-a-long-time kind of girl.
The drive was nice and love the way this city places lush vegetation along the roadways. The financial district felt a bit like Wall St. in New York with its extremely tall buildings blocking out the sun.
The driver explained that the Singapore flyer doesn't look like it's moving because it takes 30 minutes to make one complete revolution.
| Going up? Sure am! Waaay up! |
We're ready for our lunch with bottomless mimosas! They are S$30 but individually they are S$25 so I got the bottomless and had FOUR! Can you believe it, Melodie? FOUR! Ordered Penne Carbonara, Kurt got a sandwich with truffle chips, Kim got a salad with chicken and Sophia ordered a pizza.
Waiting for our food, Kurt took me out to the balcony for photos and to show me the marina bay with the Merlion, a Singapore icon. He pointed out the many spots of interest and great restaurants to enjoy. Guess that will be a day trip for me upon my return the end of this month. I'll have three days before my U.S. flight home.
| Dead center with the red roof is the Fullerton Hotel. Lower right corner is the Louis Vuitton flagship store which can be accessed below the water and taking an elevator up. |
| The colorful stadium complete with a floating soccer field! Since land is a premium and Singapore is surrounded by water, they are planning more floating buildings for their expansion. |
This terrific lunch, complete with a 10 layer cake and a serving of tiramisu came to S$295. Singapore IS NOT CHEAP! Be ready if you visit.
| I had a taste and Nonna's Tiramisu has Espresso Soaked Ladyfingers on top and between the layers with Mascarpone Mousse |
| Kurt, Sohpia and I shared this cake and even brought home some leftovers for later tonight. Listed as a 20 layer Chocolate Devil’s Food Cake with Peanut Butter Mascarpone |
| I've never seen so many ships anchored in the bay as they await their turn to deliver or pick up their cargo! The domes to the left are the Flower Dome and Cloud Forest. Just right of these two domes is the Supertree Forest and the dome center bottom is the Floral Fantasy that I had visited earlier. The white dotted lines somewhat center is the art display of "eggs" at Dragonfly Lake just outside the Floral Fantasy dome. |
Coming home we passed our well-used Grab Food delivery and another Lunar New Year display for the Year of the Rat.
And what do you do with the food carry-out bag from Lavo? Well, Sophia had a great idea!
Naptime for Kurt and Kim when we return from lunch since we are on our way to the Wildlife Reserves Singapore Night Safari around 6pm. Kurt has a midnight flight to Switzerland with a return home next Saturday. So we're going early and coming home early. They recommend water, insect repellant and NO flash photography.
Well, here's my attempt at photography in the dark or nearly dark. The photos aren't clear and those little booger animals just won't stand still for their close up, Mr. DeMille!
| Entrance to the Wildlife Reserves many parks. Sorry for the traffic stick!! |
| A night out with the family before I depart tomorrow. |
| Sophie's camera phone video of the fire show before entering the park. |
| A white raccoon. |
| Can't remember his name but this little guy NEVER stopped moving as he jumped to each stump for his treats. |
| Can you find the leopard? |
| Each animal offered insight and education into the world of nature. |
| The moral: If otters can recycle so can we! |
| A treat for a job well done. |
| Couldn't catch him flight at the beginning of the show but this keeper offered a better shot at the end. |
The 40 minute tram ride was next on our agenda and it didn't disappoint but my camera did! Couldn't flash and couldn't turn off the focusing light before shots. So I resorted to my camera with the flash turned off and found out I should have been using it all along. Oh well, I enjoyed the ride and finding the animals in the dark instead of worrying about photographing the experience. Thanks, Iris, for the great suggestion! My family had not been here so it was a unique experience for us all to share!
| Female white lion. I told Sophia that it was her job to tell this lion to look at us for the picture and she failed! LOL |
A Grab home and Kurt was off for his 13-hour midnight flight to Switzerland. I leave at noon for my 1445 flight to Chiang Mai, Thailand in a few short hours. Talk more then!
What a blast! That food is amazing, especially the deserts!
ReplyDeleteFOUR, Marilyn? Four? Really?!?!?
The architecture is fascinating! And I'm so impressed that you are keeping up with your blog!
